Dear Conference Participants,

We have been working to secure reasonable rates at area hotels for participants, which has been more difficult this year than in year’s past. It seems there is a Model United Nations summit on our campus that weekend, and rooms are going quickly. So please understand that the rates and places we are recommending are only available for a very limited time, and we urge you to take advantage of the opportunity as soon as possible.

Hotel Accommodation for 4th Annual New Voices Conference

Accommodations in the San Francisco Bay area tend to be a bit pricey, so we have gone ahead and blocked off some rooms at local hotels at group rates (the most inexpensive we could find that were easily accessible to/from campus).

Listed below are the hotels where we have made arrangements. The rooms have been blocked off for the dates of March 9th through March 11th so please be sure to let the reservation desk know which dates you will be staying and be sure to mention you are with the “New Voices Conference” at UC Berkeley.

We also encourage folks to check online hotel agents such as hotels.com/expedia.com/orbitz.com, etc. San Francisco is not geographically far away, but if you choose to stay outside of Berkeley, try to choose a hotel with access to BART (the subway). Although SF is less than 10 miles away, it can take up to an hour to commute on weekdays even on the subway.

As for airports, both SFO and Oakland have access to BART which can take you directly to Downtown Berkeley, a ten-minute walk to campus. Oakland is technically a lot closer so most people fly from there. Oakland also has door-door shuttle service and generally these cost around $20-30 for a single person to their destination. If you have any more questions about travel, please feel free to email danikams@berkeley.edu and she will be happy to answer questions.

The hotels that we have recommended in the past, including the Bancroft Hotel, the Hotel Durant and the Shattuck Hotel are completely booked and unavailable during our conference dates.

If you are considering not coming to the conference because accommodations are cost prohibitive, PLEASE contact us and we will do our best to find student hosts, these spaces are quite limited, and we ask that they be available to those who are unable to stay elsewhere.
