Graduate Deans
Graduate Dean Andrew Szeri oversees all of the units in the Graduate Division and is an ex officio member of the Graduate Council and the Chancellor’s cabinet. The Dean is assisted by three associate deans.
The graduate deans are available for advice and assistance if students cannot solve problems in their home departments. If you wish to make an appointment with a dean, you are normally required to write a letter describing the purpose of your visit.

Andrew J. Szeri Dean Szeri serves as an advocate for graduate education, teaching, and research at Berkeley, working closely with the Graduate Council on policy and procedure related to graduate education. The Dean also collaborates with several other academic committees, departments, and administrative units to ensure equity and fairness across the different disciplines and to increase support for graduate students. |

Joseph
J. Duggan Dean Duggan is responsible for Admissions, Degrees, Academic Appointments, and the Graduate Student Instructor (GSI) Teaching and Resource Center. On behalf of the Administrative Committee of the Graduate Council, he also oversees student grievances and determines the procedure for responding to them. Carlos Fernandez-Pello Dean Fernandez-Pello handles issues regarding graduate diversity and outreach. He oversees the Graduate Diversity Program, the American Indian Graduate Program, Graduate Division’s academic services, fellowships, publications, and websites. |

Susan J. Muller Dean Muller is responsible for academic program reviews and issues concerning graduate student life. |
