Named Fund Initiative
“Berkeley graduate students, the best in the world, have been a major part of colossal research efforts which have changed the shape of California and the nation.”
Mary Ann Mason
Graduate Division Dean, 2000-2007

Named Fund Initiative Endowments for Graduate Student Support

From March 2006 to June 2007, Graduate Division offered a 1:1 match for gifts from current and retired faculty to establish new endowed funds for graduate student support. Matching funds for this program were generously provided by Bill '61 and Trudy Ausfahl and William V. Power '30.  When the Initiative closed, over 100 faculty members stepped forward to create 102 new endowments. These funds provide support for graduate students in almost all advanced degree programs on campus.

Today, you can join UC Berkeley faculty in supporting our exceptional graduate students. Cal alumni and friends, as well as campus donors, can make a gift to one of the Named Fund Initiative Endowments and help to strengthen our ability to offer competitive fellowships to Berkeley's top graduate students.

If you are a campus donor, your gift to a Named Fund Initiative Endowment is eligible for a 1:1 match under a new campus matching program, The Chancellor's Challenge for Student Support. This program will remain open until June 30, 2012.
