Professor Abba Lerner was educated at the University of London and has served many universities as a member of their faculties. A Fellow of the Royal Economic Society and of the Econometric Society, he has served in consulting positions to the Economic Commission for Europe, the Economic Advisory Staff of Israel, Treasury and Bank of Israel, and as a member of the Editorial Boards of the principal professional journals in his field. He has won numerous prizes, fellowships, scholarships, and awards, including several while a university student, two of which accompanied his first-class honors degree. His colleagues elected him to the Vice Presidency of the American Economic Association and the Regents tantalized him in 1964 with the award of a Regents Lectureship prior to inviting him to permanent status at Berkeley. Professor Lerner has written books on the Economics of Control, The Economics of Employment, Economic Analysis, Business, and numerous articles. Since 1930 Professor Lerner's major emphasis has been on a broad range of economic theory oriented to public policy issues. For at least 20 years following 1935, he was a prominent purveyor, interpreter, and contributor of Keynesian and post-Keynesian theories of income and employment.
