Professor Kidder is at present Visiting Professor of Anthropology at Berkeley. He retired last November as Chairman of the Division of Historical Research for the Carnegie Institution of Washington. As Chairman of that division he has been concerned for many years with the Carnegie Institution's program of historical and archaeological work with respect to the Maya peoples and their civilization in Yucatan and Guatemala. He is the foremost authority on this ancient and very high civilization.
