About David Brion Davis

David Brion Davis is Sterling Professor of History, Emeritus, and the founding director of the Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition at Yale University. He is one of the pre-eminent historians of slavery. The Center seeks to foster an improved understanding of the role of slavery, slave resistance, and abolition in the founding of the modern world by promoting interaction and exchange between scholars and the public through publications and educational outreach.
