Yi-Fu Tuan is a Chinese-American geographer famous for pioneering the field of human geography and merging it with philosophy, art, psychology, and religion. Human geography focuses on the study of the social science patterns surrounding human activity. Tuan previously served as Professor of Geography at the University of Minnesota (1966-1983) and the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1983-1998). Even after his retirement from teaching in 1998, Tuan has remained a prominent figure in geography.
