Robert Merrihew Adams The Hope of Heaven A renowned scholar in the philosophy of religion and ethics, Robert Merrihew Adams has taught and published in four areas: philosophy of religion, history of modern philosophy, ethics, and metaphysics. His books include "The Virtue of Faith and Other Essays in Philosophical Theory" (1987), "Leibniz: Determinist, Theist, Idealist" (1994) and "Finite and Infinite Goods: A Framework for Ethics" (1999). He currently works on modern philosophy, ethics and metaphysics, especially ontology and its relation to philosophical theory. Adams received his Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1969 and is the Clark Professor of Moral Philosophy and Metaphysics and Chair of the Department of Philosophy at Yale University. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and past President of the Society of Christian Philosophers and the Leibniz Society of North America.
