Bart D. Ehrman God's Problem and Human Solutions: How the Bible Explains Suffering Bart Ehrman is renowned for his contributions to the field of religious studies, focusing on New Testament interpretation and the history of ancient Christianity in the first three centuries AD. He has advanced the academic study of Christianity by posing pressing questions on contemporary New Testament scholarship and traditional Christian beliefs, especially those concerning the Bible. Ehrman taught in the Department of Religion at Rutgers University from 1984 to 1988 before joining the faculty at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Department of Religious Studies in 1988. Ehrman served as the Department Chair from 2000 to 2006. In 2003, he was appointed the James A. Gray Distinguished Professor.
