Re: Academic Progress Award II
CC: Graduate Deans, Graduate Division Unit Heads, Deans and Department Chairs (DNTF eligible units)

This is to inform departments and students that the Academic Progress Award II (APAII) program is ending this year. October 2002 will be the last time eligible students will be able to apply for the APA II. Applications for this year's competition are available at the Fellowships Office, 318 Sproul Hall, or may be downloaded from the Web.

The APA II program was created in order to provide funding opportunities to students in some departments who were unable to qualify for the Dean's Normative Time Fellowship (DNTF) at the time of its introduction. As the DNTF goes into its third year of offering in 2003-2004, students are better able to plan their advancement within normative time and qualify for the DNTF. Funding previously earmarked for the APA II program will be used to support the increasing number of students now qualifying for the DNTF.

Please forward this memo to all students in your department. Thank you.
