Fee Remission Programs for Spring 1997

Graduate Student Instructors (GSIs) who are appointed for at least 25 percent time and Graduate Student Researchers (GSRs) who are appointed 25 to 44 percent time are eligible for the partial in-state fee remission totaling $1,087.50 for the spring semester and coverage of the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) premium fee of $219. Students who receive a SHIP waiver from the University Health Services because they have proof of equal or better coverage are not eligible for the SHIP remission.

For Readers, Tutors, Nursery School Assistants, and Community Teaching Fellows who are appointed for at least 25 percent time, the coverage will continue at the 1992-93 rate of $600 partial fee remission per semester and $182 SHIP premium fee remission per semester.

GSRs who are appointed for at least 45 percent time are eligible for the full in-state fee remission totaling $1,978.25 and coverage of the $219 SHIP fee, unless they have a SHIP waiver. The fund source that pays the salaries of qualifying GSRs is also used to pay the cost of the remissions.

To receive the remission, your appointment must be for the entire semester, you must be registered by the end of the third week of classes (February 7, 1997), and you must be enrolled for a minimum of eight units. For more information, see your department payroll assistant.

If you pay your fees through the Deferred Payment Plan, you must pay the first installment (20 percent of the assessed fees). There is a $40 nonwaivable fee to use this plan.

The remission credit will appear on your Campus Accounts Receivable System (CARS) billing statement. You may check the status of your CARS account through Bear Facts. If the remission does not appear on the February statement, you should contact the payroll assistant in your hiring unit.
