The Oxford University Press publishes a series of books based on the
Berkeley Tanner Lectures on Human Values. Each volume includes the honored
speaker's lectures, the responses of three invited commentators, and
the lecturer's final rejoinder. These philosophical dialogues are introduced
by the volume's editor.
The inaugural volume of the series, "The Practice of Value"
(2003), is based on the Tanner Lectures delivered by Joseph Raz in March
2001. It includes the remarks of his commentators, Christine Korsgaard,
Robert Pippin, and Bernard Williams, as well as an introduction by Jay
Wallace.
Sir Frank Kermode's 2001 Tanner Lectures form the core of the second
volume, "Pleasure and Change: The Aesthetics of Canon" (2004).
Kermode's lectures are accompanied by commentary by Geoffrey Hartmann,
John Guillory, and Carey Perloff, and are introduced by editor Robert
Alter.
The third volume in the series, "Another Cosmopolitanism: Hospitality,
Sovereignty, and Democratic Iterations" (2006), features Seyla
Benhabib's 2004 Tanner Lectures and the responses of commentators Bonnie
Honig, Will Kymlicka, and Jeremy Waldron. "Another Cosmopolitanism"
is edited and introduced by Robert Post.
"Reification: A New Look at an Old Idea" (2007), is the
fourth volume, featuring Axel Honneth's 2005 Tanner Lectures. It includes
the remarks of his commentators, Judith Butler, Raymond Geuss, and Jonathan
Lear, and is introduced by editor Martin Jay.
